Continental Dalston

Placard Project is a collaborative fundraising poster campaign to celebrate and benefit the Rio, an iconic Grade II listed independent, non-profit cinema in east London that has been positively impacting the local community for over 100 years.

‘Continental Dalston’ is a phrase found on early 1970’s advertising for the Classic, which later became the Rio. The phrase perfectly summarises the nature and history of the cinema and the neighbouring area – a vibrant community of people from all walks of life.

The poster is constructed from a palm tree like segment of one of the Rio’s original logos, overlaid with a footnote text by artist and designer Scott King.

Available to purchase in two colourways, as a screenprint or giclée print from Placard Project.
